My Travel trailer tires are 10 years old. Is it a given they should be replaced?

thomas p asked:

Or can they be physically inspected to determine there condition?

check sidewalls for cracks…also at the bottom ot the tread,if any cracks are visable, change them

Even if they look like they’re in good condition, I would replace tires that are 10 years old or older.

I would change them. Tires do not last more then 5 years without some kind of a problem.

This is somewhat dependent on how far you are planning on towing the trailer - if they are in generally good condition and you are only planning on a trip of a couple of hundred miles or less and you have a spare on hand you may choose to take the risk of a tire failure which would not be too significant on a trip of limited duration.

However if you are planning a trip of substantial length replacement of the tires would be recommended simply based on the age of the tires, rather than risk multiple tire failures and the associated interruptions and additional expenses associated with roadside replacement of tires.

They are gone. Replace as soon as possible or make sure you have at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance. Those things make a real mess when a tire blows and causes a 50 car pile-up.

They should have been replaced at 5 years of age and you don’t need to check for any sidewall cracks, just replace them……
